A Holiday Sale without Marketing – Let’s See What Happens

Long-time readers, you know the drill. It’s time for The Girl with the Tree Tattoo’s annual sale! Now through the end of 2025, get 15% off anything and everything in the Ko-Fi shop with code DANCE. We’re down to just the Solo Practice Guide available in print (and only a handful at that), but the Guide as well as the Dance Diaries short reads are available in digital format.

2025 has been a weird, disturbing year, and while I have many thoughts, I haven’t felt the need or desire to write them down for anyone other than myself. The world, particularly the online world, has become so noisy. The urge to quit modern society and live out my days in a hobbit hole in the woods is strong. So in alignment with that, we’re going minimalist with the holiday marketing.

If I’m being honest, I don’t think I’m ready to go full hermit mode and give up all that modern society has to offer. So while I’m still in a place with WiFi, and while I wait for my bread dough to rise, I thought I’d pop in here and at least say something about the holiday sale. 15% off with code DANCE. There, that ought to do it! 🙂

My dance journey has transformed into something quieter and gentler for my body, but that doesn’t mean I’m not cheering for those of you on more exciting or thrilling journeys! Your passion burns strong and you’re eager to prove yourself. You’re determined to walk out and own that dancefloor. The Solo Practice Guide is your trusty companion, supporting you as you learn to balance through those turns while holding your head up high. I can see you smiling as you realize you’re getting stronger. It’s amazing how much more you can enjoy the dance when you don’t need to think so much!

Whether you’re on a high octane jive of a journey, or more of a gentle waltz through the woods, I wish you a happy and healthy holiday season, full of your favorite dance music.

Turkey in the Morning, Turkey in the Evening

Happy post-Thanksgiving, dancers! Are your refrigerators as full of leftover turkey as mine?

Before I jump into today’s blog, I want to invite you to check out the sales happening at Practice Ballroom Dance! All book/journal bundles are discounted, so grab one for yourself and a friend to start the 2021 chapter of your dance journey off right. This year has straight up sucked, but we dancers know how to make our falls a part of our dance.

Now onto today’s story…

Dancing in the Magic of the Moment

Haul out the holly
Put up the tree before my spirit falls again
Fill up the stocking
I may be rushing things, but deck the halls again now

“We Need a Little Christmas” -written by Jerry Herman

Holiday shoppers, the Practice Ballroom Dance store is officially open for the season! Normally, I do a couple short sales toward the end of the year, but 2020 is hella different. So I’ve decided to do things a little different. Book and journal bundles are on sale and will stay that way through the end of the year!

Dancing on Christmas Eve

It may be the day before Christmas, but it’s also Sunday. As you know, Sunday is my main practice day, so even though it would have been easy to skip, I still went to the studio to practice. I didn’t want to skip anyway. Friday was my last dance lesson of 2017 (unless Teacher decides he wants to teach next week) and I didn’t want to stop dancing! Apparently I wasn’t the only one. There was a LOT of people at the studio! More than I’ve ever seen on a Sunday morning. I’m guessing we all had the same thought, that we’d have the studio to ourselves!

Tis the Season to Give Thanks

In honor of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, I’m doing an Instagram series giving thanks for what ballroom dance has done for me!

Giving Thanks to Dance

This time of year has become very materialistic. Most retailers don’t even acknowledge Thanksgiving anymore, skipping ahead to Christmas because that is where the profits are made. A coworker who was born and raised in another country commented the other day that it’s so odd to her that this country created this holiday and now we practically ignore it.

Personally, I like to give each holiday in this season its due. So follow me on Instagram (@thegirlwiththetreetattoo) for the next seven days to find out some of the reasons why I’m grateful for ballroom dance. Hint: NONE of the things I’m grateful for can be bought in a store!

What are you grateful for?

Black Friday/Small Business Saturday/Cyber Monday Sale!

Cyber Monday Update – Sale price now available on BookBaby and Amazon! See the Dance Diaries page for links. PayPal links are still available for those of you who want to buy direct.

Thank you for supporting this author during this shopping season!

I confess – I’m jumping on the holiday bandwagon. Although many stores are ignoring the calendar and proper order of things, this Friday represents the beginning of a month-long shopping spree in America. Personally, I like to stay home and watch movies all day on Black Friday. A mall packed with eager and/or desperate crowds scrambling to find that perfect gift or best deal is not my idea of a good time.

If you’re like me and would rather shop online than in a crowded mall, I have a solution! The Dance Diaries series is going on sale this weekend, starting on Black Friday and going through Cyber Monday.

Anywhere you like to shop for digital books (i.e., Amazon, Barnes and Noble, iTunes, etc.), Learning Ballroom Dance and Ballroom Budgeting will be discounted to $2.99 and $3.99, respectively. You can also look for them on my own BookBaby shop pages.

Fun fact: if you buy my books directly through BookBaby, I get a greater percentage of the sale price AND the books are available in any eReader format you need – ePub, mobi and PDF.

If you have someone in your life who has been wanting to try ballroom, give the gift of inside knowledge with Learning Ballroom Dance

If you know someone whose passion for ballroom is greater than the size of their wallet, give the gift of Ballroom Budgeting

The sale is only during this crazy shopping weekend though!  Friday through Monday, and then the prices go back to their usual amounts.

Please help spread the word, and as always, happy dancing!

Sorry, the Cookies Distracted Me

Hello, my readers! Sorry I’ve been M.I.A. the last few days, but it was Thanksgiving. Roomie and I hosted a small Friendsgiving on Thursday. Lots of good food and LOTS of leftovers!

The obligatory picture of our Thanksgiving meal

I also like to bake for the holidays.  Instead of shopping this weekend, I made oatmeal scotchies (oatmeal cookies with butterscotch chips), chocolate chip scones, and chocolate chip cookies.  So that’s my excuse. I was slaving over the oven rather than my laptop!

I was productive!

Not a lot to report in terms of dancing. I’m down to one lesson a week for at least a month so I don’t fall too far behind on lesson payments. I did have some fun at my pre-Thanksgiving lesson. We danced tango to a dubstep song called “Demons.”

I cannot get enough of this song; there is just something about it that drives straight to my very soul but makes me feel safe enough to be myself at the same time. So it was easy to get into tango character with that song blasting in the studio. Turn it off though, and I quickly shrink back into hesitation and doubt. Small steps.

I’m leaving for the Sunday social at Dance United shortly. Need to dance off all those extra calories! I hope to see you there!

And don’t forget, another “Ask the Girl” episode is coming up on Tuesday!  Anyone have questions or topics for me?  Comment below!
