Guest Post – How I Went From Burnt Out… to Owning the Dance Floor Again

Please welcome Cesar Barragan to the blog! We connected on Instagram after I saw a post of his talking about his work with dancers aged 30 to 50 years old (yes, 30 to 50!). After chatting, I knew you would be interesting in learning more. So without further ado…

There’s a moment I’ll never forget.

I was standing at the edge of a social dance floor, watching everyone move so effortlessly. The music hit…a song I used to love…and my body didn’t respond the way it used to. My steps felt stiff, hips resisted, and the confidence dipped.

It wasn’t my technique or the music. It was me feeling disconnected from the movement, the joy, and from myself.

If you’ve ever walked off a dance floor thinking:

“Why doesn’t my body move like it used to?”

“Why am I so tired after just a few songs?”

Salsa Dancing in the Rain

Several years ago, back in California, I would go dancing with friends at a local Salsa club. It was a great way to practice my follow skills while having a great time. There’s something about Salsa music that just fills me with a happy-go-lucky joy. It has an uplifting energy that doesn’t take itself too seriously. A great Salsa song sings “Life is too short to take yourself seriously!”

Nowadays, I get a little taste of Salsa dancing in my Zumba classes, but along with ballroom, I’ve been missing my Salsa nights out. Until Saturday!

Guest Post: Finding the Best Fitting Latin Dance Shoes by Yami Dance Shoes

It’s an exciting moment when you buy your very first pair of real dance shoes. It’s like going from being a person who dances to a honest-to-goodness dancer! Anyone who has shopped for dance shoes though knows that finding the right pair of shoes isn’t always easy. Different brands fit differently, and just because others love a specific brand doesn’t mean that brand’s shoes will fit your feet. I remember shopping for a pair of Latin shoes and trying on different brands. It was interesting to me to see how one popular brand didn’t fit the heel of my foot, no matter which style I tried.

If you’re in the market for a new pair of dance shoes, then please check out this guest article by Tina Lee-Almazar of Yami Dance Shoes! She provides some great insight and tips into what to look for when shopping for dance shoes. Happy (and pain-free) dancing!
